The Transpennine Route Upgrade is a significant multi-billion-pound project aimed at transforming the Transpennine main railway line, connecting Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds, and York. This upgrade will deliver more frequent, faster, and greener trains, resulting in a cleaner, more reliable, and improved service for passengers.
However, one challenge faced during the project was the high cost of providing and maintaining multiple toilet facilities for workers along the route. Traditional toilet cabins require frequent tanker visits to empty effluent tanks, leading to substantial operational expenses.
To address this issue and reduce long-term costs, the contractors partnered with Moduquip, the creators of CABINPUMP— the world’s most portable, powerful & tough macerating system. CABINPUMP units have been installed at several locations along the upgrade route, providing an efficient and cost-effective solution.
By implementing CABINPUMP, the project has significantly reduced the need for tanker collections, eliminating the associated operational costs. The system’s twin macerators can pump wastewater up to 1,000 meters to a nearby gravity drain, allowing it to flow directly into the main sewer system. This approach not only cuts costs but also supports the project’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency.
